    @alice Ah. I admit, I did imagine that to refer to someone not listening to an explicit &quot;I&#39;m not interested&quot; rather than an expectation that the initiator plainly ask first. Advice like &quot;open with a compliment&quot; made it sound like you were saying not to preface said compliment with &quot;I like you would you be receptive to flirting&quot; or something.
