Thirty years of hurt (and eleven years of writing about it) … Every September, as the melt season on the Greenland ice sheet fizzles out, I and my colleague Martin Stendel do the same thing: we sit down with a year's worth of daily surface mass balance maps and weather charts from the Polar Portal, work out how the ice sheet fared, and write it up as a guest post for Carbon Brief. Our latest one, the 11th in the series covers September 2025 to August 2026 and this… http://sternaparadisaea....

This was clear already 5 years ago, simply from conversations with my own kids. I believe its also a factor in the extraordinary move of especygirls to private schools in Denmark. To those who complain about Deutsche Bahn*, wait till you try the Deutsche Autobahn.. We decided to try a new transport mode to cross Germany this week, having left ticket booking too late to be reasonably priced and given recent disruptions on the line. Our rental EV, a VW ID.4 was perfect, long range, lots of space, good acceleration and a very large network of super fast chargers everywhere. But I wonder if there is more than a 50km stretch of autobahn between Denmark and the Belgian bor...

I feel like the old science twitter would have a good answer to this question, but let's try here. I understand Eutel Oneweb can/will make a European equivalent to #starlink. Perhaps even with higher orbits to avoid the satellite orbit pollution. Is this true? When will it be ready? How do we switch to it? Yes this is also a question about how we can help #Ukraine. #AskFedi

Ok fedizens, I will shortly be driving a rental EV around rural northern and Western Germany, (+ possibly SE Belgium) - what apps should I download and prepare for charging? Any suggestions on good plans to sign up for? #EV #AskFedi #AlwaysBeCharging

Antarctic snows For most of this century, the Antarctic Ice Sheet has been losing mass at a pretty steady rate of around 100 Gigatonnes a year, pushing up global sea levels a small amount (about one third of a millimetre per year in fact, a little less than half the Greenland contribution for example). Antarctica is by far the biggest potential contributor to future sea level rise, so this is the number we all watch rather closely, as we also discussed the other week… http://sternaparadisaea.n...

This, from the European Correspondent, is a very good way of showing that even though they fill a lot of the media time, the far right are very far from the majority in any country (possible exceptions are Poland Hungary), the main question then is how to ensure the majority views are better represented. https://europeancorrespondent.com/en/r/going-far-right

The development probably came about through the concerted, intelligent efforts of a lot of people. You're telling them their efforts do not matter. More work needs doing. We all know that.
