Water in rivers is necessary. AI is not necessary. How can we even be considering building AI data centres that rely on so much water?! The priorities in the world are a joke! #AI #Water #ClimateChange https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09-23/rhine-river-low-levels-spark-economic-concern-in-europe/107166536

@VickiWoodward Thanks Vicki! I am a long time post my Census work at ABS ( @troberts would know a lot more than me!) but the Post Census review is a real thing. Always the right thing to check though. https://www.abs.gov.au/participate-survey/household-survey/post-census-review# @treleanor

Here I was, fearing the wrong animal all along: "Cat-related hospitalisations have almost tripled in the past decade, rising from 1,219 cases in 2015–16 to 3,459 in 2024–25. It's even more common than venomous snake bites..." in Australia. Paraphrasing this article, it boils down to: "I believed in PHON, but then they didn't treat me fairly and I don't like it." Wow, when did people become so naive and so lacking in empathy that PHON's behaviour is only an issue when it impacts them? No wonder Australia is in trouble. #AusPol https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09-27/one-nation-aspiring-candidates-slam-party-processes/107079258

If the Royal Commission terms of reference include "economic societal opportunities and implications resulting from AI in South Australia," then we can be pretty sure they won't just have a finding of "not compatible with life." And AI will all be a done deal before the report is due 1 July 2027. #AI https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-01/three-experts-appointed-to-lead-sa-s-royal-commission-into-ai/107215456

Laura Tingle tells it like it is. I had heard many previous whispers about the Oct 7 attacks being either staged or known about by Israel in advance. To see it in black and white makes my blood boil. #USPol #Israel https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-03/global-excursion-into-hell-bigger-expensive-iraq/107220592

Just finished watching S4 of #TheDiplomat. Thought-provoking global spin on what is right, what is wrong and all the shades of in between... Heavy. Brilliant.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@flexghost/117452221636118556 I watched this speech early this morning and immediately sought out anything I could by this author. The most immediately accessible thing was watching his book Anxious People as a series on Netflix. I'm onto episode 4 and I wish I didn’t have to go out this afternoon. I can't wait to read his books...

Welcome to Alice Springs! I went to ANZAC Hill in the centre of town, where you get an amazing 360° view of this beautiful town surrounded by hills/ranges on all sides. I planned to make you a video but it was so windy and three busloads of people turned up, so I gave up! Here are two pictures instead. One shows the ranges, the other shows the gap in the Ranges that the road into town (and the train) goes through. #WhereTheBloodyHellAmI #DaveAndMe

This morning I walked around the base of Uluru, which is just over 10km. It took 3 hours because I didn't want to rush, there were some small deviations to see waterholes and there were a few interpretive signs to read along the way. There were several sections which are culturally sensitive and photos were not allowed, so I can't show you some of the most picturesque places. But here are some of my favourite shots. More info in AltText. #WhereTheBloodyHellAmI #DaveAndMe

It's colder here (my car beeped at me when the temp dropped below 4°C) and very crowded. I thought I missed the best pre-sunrise pic, but then this happened. #WhereTheBloodyHellAmI #DaveAndMe

This article demands to be read by the world, right through to the end. Laura Tingle unafraid to state facts: "This is not just a story about the killing of journalists, bad as that may be. But it is about the apparent impunity with which Israel now acts, the exceptionalism which it asserts, and the fact that — like the US president who has empowered the Israeli government — there appears to be no normal guardrails on its actions. That applies not just to how it treats journalists...

I don't feel like doing mundane things now, likes shopping, cleaning and washing clothes. I want to change the world. I feel revolutionary. Where does one start?

Could we run a viral "What would Jesus do" quiz? Make it current political climate scenario based. One scenario per day/week, with multiple choice answers. One answer being comparable to what Jesus actually did/taught, the others being a current policies/actions/ religious teaching that highlight hypocrisy. It would need to be well-researched and watertight, but also engaging. Thought-provoking without being too angry. I am not religious, but I would raised in an extreme...
