@lewd@zug.network Presumably because they don't expect the heating to keep up with the tempurature dropping deep into freezing as you climb?

To kind of thematically fit with @jon@gruene.social's #velocity2025 coverage, here's some highlights of the story of Pomerania's public bike-sharing service, #Mevo: The wild ride started when the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area (an intercommunal cooperation org) awarded a contract for setting up the system to Nextbike. Together, they promised thousands of bikes, all of them electric, for the insanely low price of 10 PLN/month for 90 minutes a day (or 0.10 PLN/min without a subs...

@partim@social.tchncs.de To complete the tour, you'd need to visit Frombork, but that hasn't been served by rail in a while, sadly

@partim@social.tchncs.de In the background, an underpass that *used to be* double-track, but there was no room maintain that with electrification, so now it's a tiny single track section on an otherwise doubled line

@jon@gruene.social What *is* Umbria running on the Direttissima? It doesn't look like it connects much of its territory, unless this is about stuff that runs local in Umbria and then express to Rome?

There are screenshots of that for each of these routes, except for the one in Turkey. I admire the sheer dedication but that person needs to be introduced to OpenStreetMap-based tools posthaste ;) 10/ #UTKComparesRailPrices

Then they decided to derive price per 100 km as share of monthly salary. Unsurprisingly, UK last minute takes the cake at a whopping 1.05%, EIP last minute distorts the stats at 0.77%… And on the other end of the scale is the TGV at 0.18%? How degressive is SNCF's tariff? 8/ #UTKComparesRailPrices

Oh, this is curious, apparently the Polish railway regulator, UTK, has released last month results of their own research comparing railway ticket prices on some important domestic railway routes in European countries (Polish only, though): https://utk.gov.pl/pl/dokumenty-i-formularze/opracowania-urzedu-tran/22843,Jak-droga-jest-kolej-pasazerska-w-Europie-Analiza-danych-w-wybranych-krajach-eur.html The cover has a Thalys photo on it, to start with a small laugh, I guess 1/ #UTKComparesRailPric...

#PKPIC planning to double Kraków-Bielsko-Biała ICs to 8 pairs in 2 hour Takt from 2026/7 timetable, travel time down to 1h10m, 3 pairs running through to Żywiec. This route probably looks weird to German (why is this not an RE?) and French (What is this weird not-TGV not-TER thing?) eyes, but it makes a lot of sense in our weird organization of passenger rail! https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/pkp-intercity-bedzie-wiecej-pociagow-krakow--bielskobiala-126985.html #kolej #rail #PKP #Kraków...

@rail@social.flufftech.net How can you make such a small shop so confu… Oh, right, cramming a dozen half-aisles in it and not marking them in any way so you have to look closely at the merchandise to have even a general idea what the layout is will do that

  • View post

@bovine3dom@masto.ai Also, judging from the border points listed in the timetable (with no passenger service) it looks like it takes a route via Brașov or thereabouts, with crossings in Albița, Nagylak, Rajka, Břeclav. It's a daily (well, nightly) service that goes to Liberec 4 days out of 7, and either on one day service is run with two coaches, one from each company, or there's something weirder in the data

  • View post

@bovine3dom@masto.ai Ah, that. Well, looks like it does, weirdly, although it's possible the departure time is given in CET and not EET as it should. Looks like the route is jointly run by two Moldovan companies using a Czech intermediary to handle their obligations there? You can check these coach and regional bus lines from Czech systems at https://portal.cisjr.cz/Search.aspx?c=7&mi=2

Ah, yes, Moldova, the Czech exclave XD @bovine3dom@masto.ai, the SJ night train could use more stops for dropping off passengers along the way, so unfortunately, changing to FlixBus in Malmö is the faster way, beat you by a couple hours for 3d 2h

@lewd@zug.network Yeah, I think that's roughly correct. Norway is best in that it provides not just data, but also open sources the tools they make and probably the best NetEx docs you don't have to pay standardization comittee ransom for. Other than that, in Western and Northern Europe it's probably not a problem except for a few signups and missing private operators, I think? East and south-east, though, a good bunch of places work only because volunteers put in the work of jumping...

@lewd@zug.network The EU rules state each country is supposed to provide a catalog of at least NetEx feeds. This is a complicated format, so voluntarily providing GTFS is also common (rarely this is done instead of NetEx which is technically wrong, but works for most people). But some still have nothing, almost a decade later. The current government in Poland said something about getting around to making a proper NAP and national trip planner, but I haven't heard of any actual progress on t...
