Just watched the first ep of CASTLE ROCK and it did something I always try to do in my writing, which is have something do double duty. For instance, the mocking dialogue “you’re dripping” — referring to an ice-cream scoop — does one thing by showing us the speaker is an asshole, but it also establishes that the scoop is lubricated, so when it gets slammed down his throat you think “Yeah, that could work.”

Just listened to THE SPOT OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY on THE TRUTH podcast: https://www.thetruthpodcast.com/story/2026/2/11/the-spot Real nicely done spooky story with a powerful subtext of “teens are not great, actually.” I’ve often said that bad decisions make for great stories (in fiction) and this really really bears that out. Also, props to the author for doing the voice of “Mom.”

OK, I started writing HOUSE OF BODIES thinking it would be a horror story but it seems to just… want to be about a bunch of people at a gym? Yesterday’s effort included these lines: "Denny waited a while to make his move on Polly, which anybody could have told him was an idea with no upside” and "It is impossible to fidget nonchalantly, but Denny tried.” I am pleased with them.

OK, did you read my story AFTER THE COPS? https://gregstolze.com/downloads/after-the-cops/ It’s SF, I guess, though it doesn’t demand any innovation other than “radical police reform.” It follows a defunded police officer who gets rehired in a radically reorganized community service organization. You can get it at that link as Pay What You Want (which could be free). 1/2
