Here is my question: What does "Not by AI" mean to #writers? Because if you use ANY grammar or punctuation or even some spell checkers, you've used #AI. So, are we saying the ONLY legitimate writing now is 100% human without ANY AI assists? Or is this only about utilizing an LLM to write something FOR you? Because blanket statements will inevitably be turned into a mob chant.

@noam It's not fundamentally different. Not only is it also AI, it's very similar AI. The big difference between word and grammar checks vs ChatGPT is scale, not tech. They both use a language model approach.

One thing I've noticed on various social media platforms is that the biggest responses I get to various questions about #AI, #LLM, and other current popular pieces of tech that awareness of #ChatGPT has driven, is that the most likely response tends to be someone who doesn't understand how any of it works, but FEELS like they do and very confidently challenges any notion that conflicts with their perceived reality of it. If there is a discourse problem, it's ignorance as...

@noam The point was and is that grammar and spellcheck are AI. What ChatGPT & other LLMs do is on a much bigger scale because they utilize a massive amount of transformers, something a basic grammar/spellchecker couldn't possibly do due to the cost. All three are AI. And that was the point.

@politico_eu_bot Sounds plausible. Though, I don't get the logic of murdering him as a way to change the dynamics of a future deal. That feels like someone wants to fit a narrative despite it making no sense. They didn't need to kill Navalny to kill the deal or make a different one.

@noam I understand what you were saying, but I was trying to gain a consensus understanding of what a community of people mean. Also, Michael Spence is an economist. His assessment is off. It's not close to human thinking at all. LLMs are just good at pretending to be. So, fancy autocorrect is much more accurate. When we get "closer to human thinking," we're in the realm of cognition. LLMs can only pretend to be like humans by mimicking processes of... the seemi...

I'm not the least bit upset about the latest #SCOTUS ruling because, as I've been saying for what must be over a year now, if we let states remove a candidate who hasn't been tried & found guilty yet, the GOP will 100% make up bullshit about every Democrat to remove them from ballot if they think they're going to lose to them. Anyway, we will need to make sure Trump doesn't win in November. It's that simple.

@Perspective The nanosecond the GOP decided to not rid themselves of him in 2021, it was a foregone conclusion we'd end up in a shitshow in 2024.

The best way to combat 4-years of Trumpism is to ignore all the noise they're going to make and focus all our energy on stopping their madness in 2 years instead of 4. And the only way to do that is to drive people to vote in 2026 so Trump doesn't control Congress. But we won't do that because oh boy it's fun to be constantly trolled by Trump!

Look, call me crazy but I'm starting to think that maybe these Trumpers are pro-Nazi... and that Elon Musk may not be a good person.

To people who live outside of the USA, or even Americans who seemingly don't understand how their government works (probably 90% of Americans), while you should be worried about Trump & Musk... the reality is that 77 million voted for Trump and 75 million didn't... in a country of 334 million. That's a lot of people who don't like him. And where some of the biggest states are hostile toward Trump. So, he can do damage, but he's not turning the US i...

I thought it was important I share this picture of a #squirrel with a #donut in its mouth to the entire #Fediverse because when I posted it to #Twitter, it got one like. And I know #Mastodon will not allow such injustice.
