  The Freemap outdoor map just gained a whole heeeeeeap of new symbols — 49 new POI types, from ATMs and parcel lockers to windmills and lighthouses 📍 Every tile in the pictures is a real place on the map, spread right across the area we cover — Iceland to Finland, northern Norway to southern Spain.   🍎 Autumn foraging with OpenStreetMap: the Objects tool on Freemap now finds trees and shrubs by their kind — apple, pear, plum, walnut, hazel, blackthorn, dog rose, bilberry and some 70 more genera — and whole orchards, from apple orchards to olive groves. 🌳 genus=Malus or just species=Juglans regia, in any letter case — both are found and named.   ⛰️ Germany is complete. Every federal state is now shaded and contoured on the Freemap outdoor map from its own state terrain model instead of global 30 m GEDTM30 — Saarland was the last.   Why does an Italian village keep a giant mirror on the mountain? 🪞☀️ From early November until February, the sun never clears the ridges around Viganella in the Ossola valley — so since 2006 a mirror reflects it into the square.   🇮🇹 Terrain update for Italy on the Freemap outdoor map. Where high-resolution LiDAR is available — most of the centre, south, islands and north-east — hillshading and contours now come from a 5 m model instead of the interpolated 10 m TINITALY.   🏔️ Poland now has detailed hillshading and contour lines across the whole country! Until now, the high-detail terrain data only covered a small area in the south near the Slovak border. It now spans all of Poland. Poland is mostly flatland, but the detailed relief brings out lovely subtle features — gentle undulations, river valleys, and landforms you'd normally miss.   The first photo in the Freemap Photo Gallery was uploaded almost 17 years ago. Today the gallery has ~685k photos. Freemap started as a Slovakia-focused project, so most photos are still from SK (~573k). Now that Freemap covers all of Europe, we would love to see the gallery grow across the whole continent.
