Alright friends, we worked to get this out today at what is for most of you the beginning of one of the hottest weeks in your region. We're used to living through temperatures sometimes as high as 126 F and often over 110 -- and we've learned a lot. Not a single one of these tips involves running your air conditioner or making expensive alterations to your home, because we understand that all of us are living through climate change with whatever resources we currently hold and nothing more. Stay cool and hydrated, friends! https://rancholibertad.com/how-to-live-garden-through-extreme-heat/ #Gardening #ClimateChange #ClimateJustice #ExtremeHeat #HeatDome #HeatWave #ClimateCrisis #CliimateAction

  • I'm going to update the article for anyone who re-reads but I forgot THE MOST IMPORTANT THING for the gardening section: mulch!!! Mulch a lot! Wood chips are great if you can get them, straw works if you can be sure it isn't loaded with biocides, leaf litter from the woods near your house is excellent (unless you see lots of mildewy stuff then maybe don't spread that to your veg). Anything less than 18cm (~6in) deep isn't considered mulched. This is the primary way we keep our plants water-efficient and keep the sun from just totally scorching their roots. #Gardening

@rancholibertad@climatejustice.social Not in the USA, and a city-dweller with no garden, but reading this has coloured in some of the bigger picture for me! (Though I worry about their aquifer)
