It’s not like I’m opposed to employing the term fascism - I am extensively talking about both tech fascism and the concept of “reactionary modernism” in the piece - but the “Let’s call them all fascists and be done with it” dismissiveness is not helping us understand anything better.

Similarly, I very much emphasize profit motives in the piece. But if you insist on stopping at “Capitalists gonna do capitalism,” you’ll miss that this is not *just* a story of capitalists attempting to maximize profit by sucking up to the authoritarian regime - but also a tale of political and ideological radicalization.
