Similarly, I very much emphasize profit motives in the piece. But if you insist on stopping at “Capitalists gonna do capitalism,” you’ll miss that this is not *just* a story of capitalists attempting to maximize profit by sucking up to the authoritarian regime - but also a tale of political and ideological radicalization.

Considering how much power – over our politics and our private lives – these guys are amassing, I’d say it’s worth grappling properly with why they are now giving themselves permission to openly side with the rightwing extremists. Because we will all be suffering the consequences.
