#ClimateDiary #DystopiaDiary Anyone else finding it quite hard just to, like, make it through the day? The UK government is now telling us to stock up because of Godzilla ElNino kicking off in autumn. 2026 has already been horrific, bleak and scary - wildfires, heatwave, drought, #Nepal 💔😢 and all. Meanwhile feels like huge financial crash and a lot more war coming soon too. Not to mention AI dystopia. Plus personal #Precarity for so many of us, worry every day. Like, how are you all coping?

  • #ClimateDiary #DystopiaDiary #Nepal #Precarity And yes, I do little things that bring joy. I spent Saturday afternoon doing crafts with my sister; such deep happiness from that (communal crafting- the best!). Monday we did a “Maize Maze” in a local farm which was beautiful. All this continues to be good. I also do try taking action of course (through work, #GreenParty, etc). It’s just that the underlying bigger picture feels so incredibly bleak,it’s hard to stay cheery.

@pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green Going by posts here (just in the past 5 minutes or so) I'm guessing people purposely distract themselves via their hobbies or interests; making things, photography, astronomy... We can't wholly ignore what is happening in our world but I think it's vital that we distract ourselves from it now and again. Then we can be reinvigorated to deal with it again.

@pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green Not to downplay El Niño, but to me all of this sound more like laying the ground for wartime, rather than climate adaptation. Which unfortunately doesn't make this better, in case worse, but with a caveat: while the climate is an extremely complex system in which we can intervene only over time, warlords are humans, and we can - and must - get rid of them sooner rather than later

@pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green Yes, totally agree. Am spending a lot of time on and in local community. Doing anything I enjoy that strengthens bonds between neighbours (lots of music, local festival and other events), and also looking at food security and other things we can do to build in resilience. Also lots of work at home, trying to think ahead to managing potential flood/storm damage. But it's exhausting. Feels like we're watching folk in power round the world losing their minds... #Politics

@pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green try to move my body riding my bike, walking, and really trying to get back into strength training daily. Lots of volunteering. Going outside at least once a day. Try to do something creative at least a little once a day. Socializing with friends once a week. Basically focus on things I can control, my social circle, and my community. I like the idea of solarpunk but its a "fake til I make it" kinda thing for sure.

@pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green yes I would say the last 10 years (since hurricane Maria) has been a near daily oscillation between terror and self-cultivated calm

@pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green We've still got the #brexshit cupboard stocked. It came in useful when it was three weeks into lockdown before we could get a grocery delivery. (But it's been run down somewhat - there's only two or three months worth of most things now.) We've never had to use the bottled gas stove we also bought. I wonder where it is? - buried in the garage perhaps (obvs we haven't been keeping bottles of gas in the house).

  • @pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green weirdly, It’s good for me to see how many other people are feeling the same & struggling with the state of the world. I’m not reading things wrong or off in a conspiracy hole. But also there is clearly a wish from a lot of people to make things better - and that is positive.
