@jon@social.vivaldi.net for me the only reason I currently do not daily drive @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net is that it also uses the Blink engine and I want to set a sign against the mono culture in engines. But I really enjoy Vivaldi and use it from time to time as I find it very much worth supporting. Thanks for the Vivaldis teams’ hard work to make the web better for all of us!

@jon@social.vivaldi.net I have to say that the built-in ad and tracking blocker brought me to Vivaldi, because it seems to be the only option on iOS that really offers this since Firefox on iOS is just Safari in a trenchcoat. But I think all the other features are very cool.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net Now after switching from Firefox to Vivaldi i liked one thing that Firefox uses more ram and memory usage than Vivaldi too , as of Vivaldi doesn't seem to have bad history of selling user data too .

@jon@social.vivaldi.net So much for 'partially proprietary' being a valid value.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net I like that there's mobile version as well, it keeps things nice and consistent between my devices.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net unfamiliar with the fediverse support, but really curious now... Supports how?

@jon@social.vivaldi.net It's sadly built using Chromium.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net What's missing is the "It just works for me without hassle."

@jon@social.vivaldi.net You forgot one choice to mention: it's made by Jon v. Tetzchner. You brought us Opera back in the days when the surfable internet still existed. Now we got Vivaldi to survive on this ocean of shit the web has degraded into.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net I wish I could just use Vivaldi, but too many pages fail to render. I have half a dozen browsers installed, and I still can’t always find one that works

@jon@social.vivaldi.net The sidebar (and the Opera-style start page, which I used as a kid) made me use Vivaldi, back in 2017.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net I've been using Vivaldi almost since it was released (switched directly from true Opera, because ChrOpera's mouse gestures didn't work properly). Been a supporter for a few years, too. However, unless there's a viable replacement, I'll switch to LibreWolf once uMatrix stops working in Vivaldi, as I can't imagine browsing without it (unfortunately matrix³ is too cumbersome to use [and missing important features], and I'm not aware of any other similar extension).

@jon@social.vivaldi.net I used to use Vivaldi, but somehow I lost track of it

@jon@social.vivaldi.net @tallship@social.vivaldi.net Vivaldi works just fine w/cryptocurrencies, and that's pretty much a requirement for any browser where wallet plugins are used. But getting a few "token" "tokens" each month, that amount to a pittance, just so someone can say I was literally paid to allow ads to interupt my daily workflow is fricken' ridiculous. I neither know, nor care, what the value of BAT is at any given point, but I can assure you that it is always going to be far less than the value of my time that would have been wasted in the pursuit of monetizing my *(no names mentioned)* browser activities. Similarly, I have little problems with the concepts of, and using LLM agents. What I cannot tolerate however, is some DuckAI interupting my searches offering to spew a drivel on non-sequitur prose it is proud of - just sit down and STFU bot! Thanks Jon, if there's one thing I have wanted for a long time, it's the ability grab and drag an URL from the address bar through my top menu of bookmark folders into the particular folder of my choice, instead of having to navigate to that folder and select "add active tab" (I like that too, but sometimes I wanna drag and place my bookmark directly from the address bar). Again, thanks Jon, for your unwavering commitment to excellence to the Vivaldi community, (and also calling the Fediverse, "Fediverse", instead of Mastodon ;) ). Kindest regards, Bradley @tallship@public.mitra.social #Vivaldi #Debian #Slackware #FOSS #Fediverse ⛵

@jon@social.vivaldi.net Sod a dog - I ticked no AI but it must've missed as the vote didn't take. The big draw against Vivaldi is I can see which trackers & ads are blocked but I can't change them as with Ghostery addon. The little things that are personal preferences but frustrate me too much to use: The tabs button isn't by the address bar so I keep hitting the menu instead. Find in page is used all the time but isn't at/by the top. Of a dozen browsers Vivaldi is in 3rd place. I like it, but frustrate too much

@jon@social.vivaldi.net Vivaldi is not opensource. That is the one of main reasons I don't use it.

@Obiwan2208@social.vivaldi.net 2026-09-15 12:14
I grew up with Opera and how important the community was and the sense of belonging it gave, and then @jon@social.vivaldi.net wanted continue the same line with a new project called #Vivaldi. That's my reason I got on board since.

@knaackbuilt@mastodon.social 2026-09-15 12:21
@jon@social.vivaldi.net another good one to mention here is that after many years, a browser asks right away if you’d like to set the browser up for accessibility and assistive tech. +1 for that.
-
@ianp5a@social.vivaldi.net 2026-09-16 10:04
@jon@social.vivaldi.net I use Vivaldi because it works better than other browsers, despite the fact they copy Vivaldi. I ticked the first 2 options, which were the least popular choices so far. Sure the rest, such as Fediverse, Europe, no AI/crypto etc. are great. But it needs to do its job well first!

@jeffmcneill@fosstodon.org 2026-09-19 10:38
@jon@social.vivaldi.net I've got to say, the email, calendar, and RSS feeds are excellent features, and I am now using them exclusive of other Linux desktop mail clients. The interface is not ideal, but it is serviceable, and has a lot of configuration options. Thank you.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net Privacy reasons primarily. However, although I know it's not your fault, if uBlock and other manifest 2 extensions stop working, I will probably switch (back) to Firefox.
