I noticed that openrsync has had some updates as recently as a few months ago!
Check it: https://cvsweb.openbsd.org/src/usr.bin/rsync
Or, for the newer kids these days I guess: https://github.com/kristapsdz/openrsync
I don't know if I am going to resurrect the effort of submitting it to MacPorts since it appears as if there is still not a tagged release?
Nonetheless, https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/28096 might serve as a starting place for others wanting to make such an endeavor.
I also need to get around to down streaming the most recent signify into MacPorts (sha2 was removed and some things broke last time I tried; also MacPorts relies on signify; though its own earlier fork which is compatible on older versions of OS X and I never went through the trouble of merging those changes into the MacPort of signify [rather than the version it uses internally which is built on much older sources]).
There are other things too in my mind that I am not doing; yet for some reason I thought to share those more openly? Doubtlessly some vibe coder sorts would just point an LLM at those et voilà! I am, not that sort of person; there's no deadline, no one is paying me, I have no clout to build. I am content to just let things sort of sit around until I have the wherewithal to actually deal with them on my own timeline.
Apologies for any delays that may cause others with my laggardly process. I have, believe it or not, much bigger challenges in my existence than volunteering some of my skills as a libre/free open source software maintainer.
Failed interpersonal relationships, poverty, homelessness, y'know; very not STEM sorts of challenges.
