You know you’ve made it almost to the end of the first week of September when you start to sneeze and feel a soreness in your throat… It seems no amount of sunshine, fruit, Vitamin C or D ever wards off a cold. I blame being a school pupil, then being a uni student, then working in universities, then having children who then became school pupils. Do people who claim to never get colds, have amazing super functioning immune systems…or just never meet anyone under the age of 25? #sneezes

@JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social I take daily vitamins/supplements: More specifically, the following: 1. Omega-3 2. Vitamin B 3. Vitamin D And I drink orange juice too. As well a mix of citrus fruits. To get my vitamin C intake. Doing so works well for me. Anyway, this is my input; For your consideration.😊

  • Thanks everyone for the cold tips. I WFH today to avoid spreading it. Took my vitamins - plus some Omega 3 (found packet in the cupboard partner had bought) and lemon and ginger tea (I didn’t have any herbs to hand)…and touchwood haven’t got any worse on the cold front. But the sneezing last night seems to have done something painful in the middle of my back. Is it possible for sneezing to damage your vertebrae? Is this one of the perils of your mid 40’s no one tells you about?

@JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social It helps when the children have left home and you're working from home and/or retired.

@JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social I don’t miss the new term with accompanying freshers’ ‘flu’. It annoys me that we accepted it, struggled in, spread it around and sometimes even caught it again as it recirculated, or something very like. So many Christmas holidays spent in bed… Oh how we sneered at a professor, who often researched in Asia, who always wore a mask when ill. Many thought it was mere posturing. Not laughing now are we? I always wear an N95 apart from in my own home or in my daughter’s. I remove my mask at the dentist’s at the last moment and put it back on asap. I always ask for the first appointment on a Monday morning. I’ve only had a ‘cold’ once in the past 6 years and that was post-dental appointment. When my employer wanted me back on campus I was fortunately in a position to be able to stop working. I know it’s not that easy for others. I do get gawped at or studiously avoided when wearing a mask at the gym. 😷🤷🏻‍♀️😂 No one can be glad for #COVID but I learned a thing or two.

@JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social ... or just never meet anyone under the age of 25! Stay away from children, and wear a mask in doctors office. Tea that works for me, if taken at first symptoms of a cold: Equal amount of Thyme Sage Lavender Dried herbs, boil water, throws the herbs, cover and simmer low for 5 minutes, strain and drink with honey and lemon. twice a day for 3 days at least. It is bitter, but works!

  • @JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social I used to be one of those who never got colds, despite working with the public - including unhoused folks who (through no fault of their own, I should hastily add!) had terrible personal hygiene. In hindsight I was pretty smug about it too, thinking it was due to healthy living. But karma and COVID saw to it I'd get every bug going due to reduced defences, so I now have more humility! Yes some lucky folks have stronger immune systems...but they shouldn't take that for granted.
