@grassrootsforeurope@mas.to The UK really need to clean up its own house first. - Civil rights. (transgender rigths, the right to protest, better treatment of migrants, etc) - Excessive privatisation. - The cost of living crisis. - The 'special friendship' with the US. There's more. Sadly, all of these issues also exist within the EU but the UK takes it to a whole other level. The UK, with the mackerel war, also played a very big role in Iceland halting accession talks back in 2013. The UK had numerous opt-outs to their benefit but harmful to the EU and still they were complaining and obstructing. Let's not forget the UK rebate either. The decision making process in the EU, though still a mess, has noticeably improved with the UK's absence. We cannot go back to our old ways. To me none of this is a forever no and there are clear benefits for both the EU and the UK to rejoin, but at this moment in time the negatives weigh out the positives. We can cooperate in other ways. It should also be noted every time people in the UK (well, England really) talk about rejoining they never take the EU perspective into account. This alone should be a red flag.

@thisislieven@c.im whilst I agree with some of your points I don't agree with the conclusion. When we get far enough the UK will need to negotiate entry terms with the EU. That will be, ahem, interesting.
