My mum asked the staff at Mordialloc Woolworths about yesterday's machete attack, and they told her they're not allowed to talk about it. I can understand why staff might be told not to tell anyone about it while police are investigating. But I'm annoyed by the lack of follow-up reporting on violent crimes. Every time one of these attacks happens, I scour the internet for months afterwards looking for information about the motive, whether anyone was charged, and what eventually happened in court. I never find anything, unless it was a murder. I realise there are legal restrictions on reporting some of this information, particularly when minors are involved, but I think some of these restrictions are excessive. And even allowing for these restrictions, I'm frustrated that I hear so much about these crimes when they happen and so little about what happens afterwards. I think it's in the public interest to know what's going on and why. #Melbourne https://www.news.com.au/national/victoria/crime/teen-allegedly-slashed-in-mordialloc-pier-brawl-before-running-to-woolworths-for-help/news-story/04cd4143bdde5b55e6eb24bbdde75856
