Happy Beginning of the Internet Age Day! "The first two-network TCP/IP transmission was between the [Packet Radio Van] and ARPANET on August 27, 1976; the van was parked next to Rossotti's (since 1956, officially the "Alpine Inn"), a well-known Portola Valley, California biker bar, and wires were run to one of the picnic tables." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packet_Radio_Van #internet #InternetHistory #InternetAge #PacketRadioVan #arpanet #history #OnThisDay #OTD

50 years in, and things are not looking so great. But! I am very grateful for all of you keeping the spirit of the early, human-centered web alive. https://stefanbohacek.online/@stefan/109909025848772528

  • @stefan@stefanbohacek.online I’ve been there too, seen the plaque. But, yeah, hard to say how much I feel like celebrating given the capitalist/fascist beast it’s become.

  • @stefan@stefanbohacek.online did you know I’ve explained to my partner how TCP works and now we use it during conversations? I’ll ask them something and they’ll repeat it back to me and I’ll say “that’s right” or vice versa. And now our relationship misunderstandings have decreased dramatically! GO TCP!! #relationshipadvice #tcp #humor

@stefan@stefanbohacek.online I was there, 3000 years... oh wait, I wasn't even born then. Yep, the internet is older than I am.

@stefan@stefanbohacek.online TCP/IP is a stunningly robust protocol stack. at an early startup, for fun, we set up 2 150 baud acoustic coupler modems, connected them with 2 v8 cans connected by waxed cotton thread, and were able to send packets back and forth (TCP/IP/cslip/tin-can-and-string).
