One of the staircases in the City Chambers in Glasgow. Designed by William Young and built in the 1880s, its lavish internal decorations have to be seen to be believed. Luckily, they run regular tours so you can take a peek inside.

@thisismyglasgow@mastodon.scot Visited this with dad on Doors Open Day, the staircases have a fabulously Escher quality to them. Rest of the building is equally fascinating and, with Doors Open coming soon, well worth a visit

@thisismyglasgow@mastodon.scot as I am a guy from NYC, my 1st rxn is, sadly: if you read contemporary newspaper accounts, how many talk of hte enormous expenditure wasted on the city chambers, with suggestions of backhanders and graft ?
