Over 75% of the world’s food crops need pollinators. Yet, bee populations have dropped globally over recent decades due to: 🔸 habitat loss 🔸 climate change 🔸 excessive use of pesticides Our fertiliser plan promotes healthier ecosystems, which are essential for bees’ survival. On this #WorldBeeDay, we urge governments, organisations and citizens to help save these precious creatures. We need to keep our bees busy and well!

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu While I support this initiative – who doesn't want less pesticides, cleaner waterways, more nature – #WorldBeeDay is about all the other bees, whose numbers are plummeting hand in hand with habitat loss. Honeybees don't need saving; that would be like saying we have to save the birds and we start with the chicken. "Keeping hives to save bees is like keeping chickens to save birds" https://www.irishtimes.com/news/science/keeping-hives-to-save-bees-is-like-keeping-chickens-to-save-birds-1.4023891 "The best way to help bees? Don’t become a beekeeper like I did - When I set up my honeybee hive, I had no idea I might be harming wild bee species. Now I’ve found better ways to encourage biodiversity" https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/apr/07/help-bees-dont-become-a-beekeeper-honeybeee-hive-biodiversity #bees #biodiversity #EcosystemCollapse #HabitatLoss #honeybees

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Good to see the EU Commission's move to Mastodon has resulted in the development of excellent memes.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu The right half doesn't describe Mastodon, but LinkedIn.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu I love the image, but the "excessive use of pesticides" is absolutely something the EU commission could and should be doing something about. Ban glyphosate, please.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu On Mastodon, wouldn't the right side simply be: Bees!

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu I don't get it what Mastodon has to do with bees. Do you post similar things to suggest facebook, google or instagram are out of touch with reality, too? Or, 🤔 Since you post it on mastodon, you want to show how you give in to silliness? This is too goolge for me - , err… meta. 🤯
