Thanks so much for saying this, Avi! I can't believe how many people have their heads so far up in Oil & Gas that they believe the only way to stop the largest multi-billion dollar industry which is creating costly global wars, killing countless millions to raise their profits and capital ownership, is to hand them more of our public money without any strings attached. We could be funding anything but Oil & Gas to make our lives more affordable, but most importantly we should be funding ourselves away from Oil & Gas dependency!
I'll also add my response to one of the commenters on FB who claimed that we already tax US oil corporations to extract our resources:
While this is technically true, in that this is the purpose of charging royalties; 95% of Canadian oil is in Alberta and owned by Albertans. The Alberta government is supposed to be a responsible steward of this resource owned by us (the people, not the government!), to fairly tax those who profit off of it. However, our Alberta government is fully in the pocket of the profiteers, and is representing their interests to extract our resources for their profit with little to no cost to them. That equates to little to no public revenue for us, the owners of the oil; with full profit margins for the exploiters of our public resources. That is not responsible stewardship. The UCP even makes the public pay for abandoned oil well cleanup, instead of the oil corporations which profited off of them! It's no different than a corporation using all our public infradtructure then getting a break off all the property taxes, except with oil it's a much bigger money grab than any of us plebs can imagine.

@ned@beige.party The federal government attempts to conceal the massive debt Canadians took on to fiance TMX through the shell corporation TMP Finance. It holds the debt, allowing TMX Pipeline to appear profitable with a $39 billion debt. Meanwhile Canadian conservatives with their tacit support of pipelines are demanding more debt and higher taxes. https://corporateknights.com/energy/how-creative-accounting-made-trans-mountain-look-profitable/ https://thetyee.ca/Analysis/2025/12/23/Trans-Mountain-Profitability-Accounting-Illusion/ https://ieefa.org/sites/default/files/2025-09/Trans%20Mountain%20Pipeline_September%202025%20(1)_0.pdf
