Human societies seem like they can absorb any shock (that doesn't destroy them outright) as long as it doesn't fundamentally upset the hierarchy of power. Societies are flexible. The hierarchies are not.

@gwynnion@mastodon.social I think this specific part is very well put. Just when I think I may understand humans and human behaviors after living amongst them for nigh half a century, I realize how little I actually do.
