Okay, so I've had to mention a lot of times this week that immigrants pay the same taxes as citizens. Essential public services like healthcare and education are for Canadian residents, not just Canadian citizens. Citizenship has nothing to do with what you pay into it, or what you should get out of it. Though it does let you vote in referendums and elections.
But even with that established, many bigots will attempt to claim that migrants pay less into the system than they do. They do this for a lot of things, like saying I don't pay taxes for roads because I ride a bicycle and they drive a massive pickup truck (which costs us all a fortune to maintain the roads for).
But even ignoring the lack of factual evidence of these claims, let's break down what the accusation actually means. If migrants are paying less income tax than citizens, all that means is that they are being exploited more for their labour. It means they are being discriminated against in good job opportunities, and getting paid less for the work they do. Even if they are well-educated and have degrees from where they immigrated from, that is often neglected in their job opportunities here.
So what is the #1 ballot question in the referendum? "Decreasing immigration and giving Albertans first priority on new employment opportunities." They aren't even mincing words, creating two categories of "immigrants or Albertans" (Immigrants are Alberta residents too!).
So first you're claiming that immigrants don't pay enough taxes because they are already discriminated against in good job opportunities, being pigeon-holed into lower-wage job positions, and because of that you want to discriminate on their job opportunites even further?
This is the beginning of an apartheid system.
