Personally, I have spent my career working on mostly pointless software. Software that never made it to production before it was canned. Software that diligently produced reports that were never read. Software that shunted data into a black hole.
I have to believe that we can do better than this.
People replied to me with the good work they do, and the bad work they do. Most of us on here can agree that gambling sites are harmful, but we can also agree that medical software saves lives.

People pointed out to me, quite rightly, that Silicon Valley is a pretty small bubble. The LLM hype is not even on the radar of most companies. This is true, but it also underplays how much control the largest have, both in shaping public opinion and also simply how many dollars get invested in certain areas. In short, IBM is big. Very big. But I cannot believe IBM is bigger than all the small shops building WordPress sites.
