Experiments wiith mice found that extreme calorie restriction (30% fewer calories) was associated with fewer mutations. The change in mutation rate differed between tissues; the reduction was greater in liver cells than in kidney or brain cells. In liver and kidney cells, the reduction was greatest in the least active parts of the genome.
