Paid one last visit to the Penniman Road swamp today before I head back south tomorrow. The hill is opposite the swamp. I've hiked up there many times. The narrow strip of grass at the bottom is the former location of my grandfather's schoolhouse a century ago. Most people who drive by here have no idea of its history. I'm drawn back to this stretch of road again and again. The family connection is multi-faceted, and it always feels like home. Most of the land around here is protected by a conservation easement, so it may look much the same after I'm long gone. #MeridenNH #NewEngland
