UPDATE: Found way to hijack the follow dialogs on other mastodon instances, replacing that “you need to copy and paste this” thing with a follow button that points to the instance that hosts your account. Still a lot of clicks, though. Maybe I could automatically redirect some things (such as profile pages all together)? Perhaps not by default but behind an option you can enable?

UPDATE: Firefox version available on the Add-ons site. Because the extension uses Manifest v3, you need to enable a feature flag in Firefox versions lower than 109. Download link and instructions: https://github.com/bramus/mastodon-profile-redirect#firefox

@bramus@front-end.social I've been hacking together the most ridiculous iOS/Mac Shortcut that needs an API bearer token... but can reply to a off-instance post, or (soon) follow the account. I'm basically writing a small client in Shortcuts which is ... absurd. Maybe the Chrome extension could just get OAuth'ed somehow into API access and call the API for follows?

@bramus@front-end.social I don't get your point. If i want to follow someone on a different instance I just click their name and then click the follow button in their profile. Doesn't matter if we are on the same instance or not.

@bramus@front-end.social The mastodon founders would have preferred to keep everyone in their silo instance. But apparently, people prefer to be connected regarding the instance they belong.
