#cats from my past, a thread.
I was looking for an entirely unrelated video from my partner's youtube account, when I found a bunch of cat videos from years and years ago.
I started going through my own collection and I'm so glad I did manage to save some videos from almost 20 years ago.
Let's start with Figaro. He was my sister's 8th birthday present from our parents, in 1998. This video of him was taken in 2009, so he was 11 years old. Back then it felt like he was really old, because none of our other pets really got there with age due to various reasons.
We're at my parents' apartment, not long after I'd met my partner.
Watching this and a few other videos of Figaro are sort of eyeopening; it seems that he was definitely like Wäinö. It's obvious in this video, that not only is he demanding attention in the form of pets and scritches, he's also staring at my mom, demanding food. Exactly like Wäinö does now.
He would be 28 now if he was still around. So most likely he would not be around anymore anyway. But had we known what my parents decided to do with him, we'd taken him in. Sadly we were told about the decision after the fact.
Figaro was a kitty who knew how to take care of himself outside and did not take any flack from anyone threatening his territory. You should be able to make out the nicks and scars on his nose and ears. He didn't take any crap from birds, either.
He was a fierce hunter, mostly bringing home field mice and birds he caught, most dead but I do recall one time mom had to chase a shrew out of the apartment that wasn't quite as dead as Figaro thought it was. The most impressive haul he brough home was a baby rabbit.
Figaro was a great kitty.

Then there was Elmo. No video this time, I don't seem to have any video footage of him.
Elmo came into our lives around 2000 or so, I think. So he and Figaro shared the territory for a good amount of time.
Elmo was a fuzzy, fluffy little buddy, who loved pets, but also showed you when he had enough. As is evident from the second picture 😂 That is my hand he is about to bite.
We did have a few other cats during Elmo and Figaro's reign, and Elmo made best buddies with them instantly, while Figaro didn't really care.
There was Muru, a white cat with black spots. She wasn't with us for long, sadly, barely made a year. I also don't seem to have any photos of her.
Then there was Lulu, who is in the third picture, a grey kitty with a white nose and paws. She was Elmo's favorite. She came to us as a kitten and they hit it off right away. Always napping somewhere together, either side by side or just within a paw's reach.
Elmo made it to four or five years old. He jumped/fell off a tree and hurt his back legs.
I will say, knowing what I know now, I believe my parents made some questionable decisions on the fates of our pets. I'm sure in Elmo's case something certainly could had been done, but my folks decided it wasn't worth the cost.
