I would rather have a freeform "player says what they're trying to do, GM describes whether they succeed or fail" fiat system than "GM tells player to roll some dice, player outputs a number, GM says whether that means success or failure".
If you're asking me to engage with the mechanics of the game, I need to know what I'm shooting for. Announce the target number, it's that simple! #TTRPG

@kaliranya@vtuber.house PbtA games are good for this desire since the target numbers are always fixed. Downside is that level-ups tend towards horizontal progression, if that matters to one's taste.

@kaliranya@vtuber.house What about situations where the character doesn't know how difficult the task is? There's an old saying: "If we had known how difficult this was going to be, we never would have tried it." There's also situations where a task looks easy but isn't really because of hidden factors. Just curious what your opinion is on that. I can understand it either way.

@kaliranya@vtuber.house It's 12. The difficulty is 12. Always.
