@Thayer@mastodon.social But therapists do have therapists because of that I believe. I’ve had a few but the two best were hypnotherapists who were first registered clinical psychologists. The last one I never knew if where she lived was a coincidence or on purpose as she lived in Well. And I became well.

@Thayer@mastodon.social Ouch! Maybe made more aware of the myriad ways our minds can derail us ... A psychology professor of mine suffers with imposters syndrome ... yet is always on top of any matter I might talk about when I bump into him.

@Thayer@mastodon.social you're in a better position to help someone heal if you do have wounds yourself. That was something my therapist reminded me of later in my therapy, as I was training to be a therapist. She recommended a book, The Wounded Healer though I don't remember reading it myself.

@Thayer@mastodon.social yes, be kind to yourself! This is sometimes one of the most difficult things.

@Thayer@mastodon.social All of my providers are peers, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

@Thayer@mastodon.social When siblings and I were lifegurads at assorted apartment pools (so we got to know people), before we were 21 years old we knew that therapists had "lots of issues." (We were kind to them.)

@Thayer@mastodon.social it's a familiar feeling for me to take someone in a certain role and make them perfect. I felt the same way about my school teachers as a boy.

@Thayer@mastodon.social I studied psychology in college and all I had to do was look around me to be able to tell that everyone in those classes were there to get some insight on what was "wrong" with them.

@Thayer@mastodon.social I’ve been reading Lori Gottlieb’s Maybe You Should Talk to Someone - a book about exactly that :)

@Thayer@mastodon.social The last time I went to see a therapist, it was when my mom died. We spoke about that for about 15 minutes and then all of a sudden, I realized that we were starting to talk about her own issues. It got weird. :)
