I totally get that his music moved millions, that he’s fought for worthy causes, that he’s a cultural icon. But we always seem to give grace to men like this and downplay their abuses because of the “larger context” of their “contributions” to society. We say: “Yes, he abused women BUT his music was so important to the world.” “Yes, he targeted vulnerable kids BUT his art and advocacy were so inspiring and influential.” Men like him get to be “complicated” — and ultimately forgiven. 2/4

I juts found all this out, too. It's sickening but not shocking for me. Apparently he met Marketa when she was like 12! And then dated her when she 18. But that's just... No. But guess what, it happens all the fucking time. And it would have been great if these stories were out there before he died so that he didn't get to be celebrated. So that there were fucking consequences. But the people trying to tell these truths were shut down. Because money protects products. And that's that. Ugh. I'm sorry that you had to be disappointed by someone you admired. That really sucks.
