programming as a medium of communication between programmers. between collaborators, between dependencies and their dependents, between an author and their audience, between an educator and their students, etc
even when we say that a program controls the machine, what we are saying is that the programmer is accessing routines left by other programmers working on a different level. communicating asynchronously with past programmers. all programming is communication.
