@TarynDeVere@mastodon.ie yes I’ve also noticed that people are liking posts but not retooting them, I try to do both. Also many new refugees have yet to put anything in their bios, making it hard to know whether to follow or not.

@TarynDeVere@mastodon.ie Sorry, But I disagree. Or at least I agree, but with caution. So far I've had to unfollow two people, because they are literally retooting everything their followers toot. So, my home timeline is full of stuff of no interest to me. I know this is an extreme example, but retooting just for the sake of retooting, to me, is wrong. Retoot worthy toots. Be selective.

@TarynDeVere@mastodon.ie there's a thing I learned about last night called Reed's Law. Basically social media networks can scale exponentially with the size of the network. He showed that a small growing network can leverage a huge influence. In other words, if you build it they will come. I'm so glad you're here!

@TarynDeVere@mastodon.ie Also, we could get used to less virality, and trade that for knowing there is no algorithm mediating between us and our followers. It's a different model and different mindset, I think. I'm going to continue favoriting lots of things, and - when it comes to boosting - considering how my timeline impacts my followers' experience in a more significant way than it did on the other platform. Followers probably don't want me dominating their timeline with a lot of the same topic all day.

@TarynDeVere@mastodon.ie agree being new myself but someone just pointed out to me that all they are seeing on their timeline is lots of “boosts” so finding it difficult to know who to follow as they aren’t really seeing many original posts from people but rather lots of “boosts” - so don’t know what the answer is to that?
