It appears that the party whose canvasser was displeased that I refused to shake his hand is planning on building "detention centres" (for the rounding up and deportation of foreigners) in regions which have primarily voted for their political opponents. Do they not think this sounds even a little villainous?

In their world-view, to oppose them is to declare allegiance to the Devil and all things EVIL (because they are RIGHTEOUS and GOOD, by definition), and therefore their opponents absolutely deserve to be viciously punished. That isn't villainy, that's "justice". They have no self-awareness whatsoever.
