@statsguy@mas.to It's political posturing as a reliable ally after Trump cancelled the bombing of the Houthis yesterday. They've already got about 15 refuelling tankers and seven AWACS. The Saudis really don't need this militarily.

@statsguy@mas.to How about providing ”defensive air-to-air refuelling” to Ukraine then? I’m pretty sure their fighter jets need it while intercepting Russian missiles and drones? 🤔 WAIT! Actually that would get the tankers shot down in an instant.. It’s bullshit. There’s no case to be made for ”defensive air-to-air refuelling”. Under no operational circumstances is it safe for the airframes. Air-to-air refuelling is only practical for loitering air-to-ground operations into Yemen. 🤷♂️

They serve other centers of power, particularly technological and financial power and thus corporations and regimes like MBS'. Tech, finance and gov have always been natural allies, but it's reaching obscene levels (particularly in the US), levels at which reaction is becoming a moral obligcation.
