@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org A big part of this will be asking over and over "do we really need this?" and also "how can we make this easily maintainable?". People will stop using wasteful big-tech-isms that don't make a ton of sense outside the corporate world. They will probably do away with unnecessary abstractions. IMHO, a lot of high-level languages at least partially fall into that category too, if we're being honest.
I agree with what @gryphonmyers@mastodon.social said, regarding diversifying funding.

@lu@sunny.garden @argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org absolutely yes, you've articulated something I've been thinking about a lot. I think we can get very far doing more with less (especially now that hardware is so expensive)

@lu@sunny.garden If they were unnecessary, wasteful, and didn't make sense outside the corporate world, then I wouldn't be using them, and I certainly wouldn't be worrying about their future. This is especially true of Rust and C++, which you may recall were popular with the nerds *before* they became popular with the suits. @gryphonmyers@mastodon.social
