I can't do many of the combos for my character in the Avatar fighting game, let alone do them consistently, and that is such a small thing in the grand scheme of things but it makes me feel awful. Cause I like the idea of the game but playing the character in a way that feels reliable or competent feels out of my grasp. I feel like I don't get to play the game. It's a small thing and the feeling will subside but gahdam. For all the time I spend talking about and even playing fighting games, my feeling (and RESULTS) for if I'm "good" at them is fucking volatile from game to game. I should have expected a Mike Z game to be a fucking multiplayer combo simulator but gahdam if I'm not pressing the button too early I'm fucking up a microdash in a supposed B&B (who puts fucking mandatory microdashes in a B&B?) or getting j9C instead of j5C which sometimes makes a difference After struggling with Korra's Intermediate Combo 3 for like 2 hours I think I'm gonna avoid the game for a little bit. That session wasn't fun at alllllll

  • @NaClKnight@c.im In your defense, everything I've heard about this game is that it's like a Soulsborne of fighting games, everyone but the most busted of FGC people I know is passing on this one or getting it for casuals only. I had it on my wishlist for a minute just for fun but took it off right quick after I heard how hard it is ^^; I *am* hearing good things about Tokon though, once one can get it running of course ^^;;

    The game isn't going anywhere. I am not looking to go out and win tourneys tomorrow. I am not chomping at the bit to play ranked. In that regard, i can break it into two pieces: 1) When i can do most of what my character is capable of, i can focus on the why and when and where instead of just the what and how. I can spend time learning matchups and reactions, or strategies, or setups and counterplays. Those feel like the "actual game" to me. Before then, i'm just playing Rock Paper Scissors with a poor percentage of Rock, Paper, or Scissors actually happening when i play them. Street Fighter 6 (currently) and Blazblue CF (formerly) are examples of games where i had sufficient execution to play the game instead of struggle with character fundamentals 2) My friends. My peers. My compadres. I gotta figure out who is my social circle for this game and how seriously they're taking it. I don't need to be tourney level if the people i mostly play against are hella casual I am a grown ass man with other commitments and responsibilities. I get to set my priorities and if i land this combo tonight or next month that won't affect my life. The game will be there when i'm ready for it

  • @NaClKnight@c.im fwif w/ avatar there's a number of combo trials that are flat out broken on release, and character complexity varies wildly in different aspects idk much about korra but afaik there aren't any microdashes in the B&B. according to the discord it's: 5A 5B 5C 6C > 6D > Forward Jump, j.B j.C > j.214B
