I have dear friends stuck in low levels in games they love and i have begged my friends to never let that happen to me. I'd bitterly regret sticking with a game that also makes me feel incompetent. SF4 was that for me but i only took it seriouslyt at the tail end of Super into Ultra SF4. I bounced off SF5 in favor of Blazblue CF which i hadn't taken seriously since college. I would be upset if my wife and friends let me spend hours weeks months years drowning in silver/plat/weenie/scrub ranks if they knew being there frustrated me. It'd feel like letting a fish try and climb a tree for years on end. To a certain extent, this sentiment explains my distance from Marvel Rivals. I KNOW i suck, and the games feel random or easy or hopeless in part because i, on my very best day, am merely an ok dive tank vanguard, and i can't summon the interest or motivation to improve, so the game isn't fun cause even if my friends carry me i KNOW i'm barely helping the team. So i don't wanna play it, even socially. This is all to say that Fighting games are a hobby. I need my hobbies to be some combination of fun and fulfilling, enjoyable and satisfying. Writing horny fiction is always satisfying, cause i have a story when i'm done. Even if it's not one i can show all my friends or parents lol. But i have proof of the effort, and Eben if the story sucks, it exists. Fighting games are mostly ephemeral to me, like concerts or vacations. i need to redo the calculus on what's worth doing based on how satisfied I'll be to have done itvs how happy doing it makes me.
