🧵 The only way to be a smart person who supports Trump is to have concentric levels of delusion.
After religious fundamentalism, the "college students yelling at a racist speaker are actually more powerful in society than the president and right-wing media" is the most pervasive of these delusions.

There's a related delusion to this one that's held by some people w left-leaning views. They see the fear and get paralyzed or retreat. They don't get that literally anything that liberals or leftists do will make reactionaries angry or can make conservatives scared, and so they want to trim their sails constantly instead of communicate better.
