@Sheril@mastodon.social Law of Inverse Proportion: how critical is the inverse of wide swaths of farmland, via vertical farming/agrivoltaics? Sure, the emergency transition should be fully paid for by Fossil Fuels, but secondary efforts, in the most protected, stable areas, should be pursued... sooner rather than later.

@Sheril@mastodon.social As I realised only recently again when a ditch 1 m deep had to be dug behind my property for a high voltage cable. It was not more than 10 inch of vertile topsoil with merely sand and pebbles below... the difference between a vertile cultivatable paradise and a desert... Especially now the rain stays away here in Northern Europ it is getting painfully visible what the effects are...

@Sheril@mastodon.social 100% true. Blue if we could convince the American farmer that they have been abusing nature to the point it can't keep up. We have been using water in the aquifer faster than it can be replenished can't continue.

@Sheril@mastodon.social Reminds me of the central message of Aurora (2015) by Kim Stanley Robinson: Earth's habitability should *not* be taken for granted; chances are, even the most habitable alternatives are extremely dangerous and will not support our lives without massive sacrifices of future generations who will resent their colonizer ancestors who enjoyed Earth.
