@doragasu@mastodon.sdf.org @rl_dane@polymaths.social This is an extremely hot take, but, I genuinely hate USB-C so much, I actually prefer most proprietary ports over it. I mean, my 2009 samsung phone's proprietary port needs cleaning maybe twice a year, as opposed to every single usage with my newer USB-C phone. Standards are obviously still better in general; If I _do_ have to use USB charging, I prefer mini-usb, and if I do have to use USB data, I prefer USB-B. And indeed if I ever can't find a rare proprietary USB cable, I'll modify a device to use one of those two plugs. My wont/want though is ps/2, serial, vga, 1/4in audio (yes, 1/4in if I can get it, not 1/8in), and 12v or 19v barrel plugs. Am I saying that I'd like to carry around a phone with a 9pin serial port, a PS/2 port, a 1/4in audio jack, and a 12v barrel plug? Yes, yes I would. And you could 100% do all that and still have it be half the size of these absolute leg destroyers we're forced to endure :P The way I see it, the only reason we were able to get everyone to standardize on USB-C is because USB-C is so terrible, and such an absolute _non standard_, that it fulfills everyone's bullshit quote. We cannot have nice things, and USB-C fits in perfectly with not nice things.

@OpenComputeDesign@linuxrocks.online @doragasu@mastodon.sdf.org I don't miss D-SUB or Centronix. You can have them. XD I have had my phone for three years, and haven't cleaned out my USB-C port yet. Will I need to soonish? Probably.
