@chriswho@mstdn.social @chasseur@hachyderm.io Yup. The man on the left is a Syrian immigrant to the United States. His name is Abdulfattah Jandali. He moved here, started a restaurant, and had kids. The man on the right is his son. He is Istefan bin Abdulfattah Jandali. @mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io @chasseur@hachyderm.io Exactly. Immigration works for everyone. Immigrants hire others, pay taxes and generally enrich the culture. I've always been more of a fan of the cultural mosaic, where everyone brings their own unique style and identity that enriches the whole, as opposed to the melting pot where everyone becomes the same and folks lose a cultural identity.

@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io @chriswho@mstdn.social @chasseur@hachyderm.io Unprocessed internal messiness is the base condition which prompts people to develop external solutions. Did a sense of rootlessness, self-doubt around identity, and search for a balm for unknown psychological wounds result in innovation? Does this explain #American Exceptionalism™ I’m not saying, I’m just sayin’ 🤷🏻‍♂️
