1/ "It’s difficult to describe how it feels to me to get what I’m looking for in a picture. It’s good, of course, a very peaceful state. But the inspiration, the idea is in control and my job is to do as it tells me and not get in the way, so I don’t feel much of a sense of personal achievement or pride in my work.

2/ It’s my belief that things get themselves made. The idea comes unbidden, and the practitioner feels an urgency to capture it in a work of art. The thing gets itself made by appearing as an idea the practitioner feels compelled to act on. In the early days this phenomenon made me ecstatic, and I still derive a lot of happiness from it."
