Solar Rights Alliance on SB 868 (just signed into law in California) "...This new Plug-In solar law does three things: Creates a statewide safety standard for Plug-In solar. Limits the size of these systems to 1200 watts (about 3-4 panels). Creates a new rule that lets us use these safety certified systems without having to pay the utility a fee or get permission from the utility. Millions of households in other countries use these Plug-In systems every day to make their electricity more affordable. In Germany, people can buy these systems online, in hardware stores, and in big box stores like Ikea and Walmart. These portable solar panels come with integrated microinverters, and they can be hung from a balcony, set out on a patio, or placed in a yard, and then safely plugged into a wall outlet. These Plug-In systems can help renters and homeowners alike immediately lower their energy bill. And now, they’re coming to California! Here's what to expect next: The Plug-In solar law goes into effect on January 1st, 2027. It’ll probably take a few more months after that for manufacturers to get their first round of products certified by safety experts, as the law requires. We’re keeping a close eye on developments to ensure that you're among the first to know when safe, certified Plug-In solar systems start hitting shelves. ..." #pluginsolar #solar #climateresilience #energy

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org This is a great development. I have been following it with the Naive hope I could add to my existing system this way but no such luck. But it will be great for people in apartments etc

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Great news! Wish it was happening in Australia, where renters are always left behind & treated / valued poorly. ☹️ Still, I’m happy for those in other countries who will benefit. 🤗🙏🏻

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org order yours here. Solar panels at cost. Not a paid plug, just solar panels will never get cheaper again with US tariffs. https://spore.social/@kzodasnowman/116922154395791510

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I wonder why the limit on wattage, is that a safety concern?

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org 1200 W peak is nice, here in Germany only 800 W are allowed for plug-in solar. Over here panels also don't come with integrated inverters, it's a separate compact box with (usually) four connectors for the panels and one output connector.

  • @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org am I understanding correctly that these get plugged into wall outlet and backfeed power? I know my electronics skills beyond very basic are atrophied since haven't used since HS but doesn't that cause lot of issues for grid balancing etc?

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org This reminds me of the Gorilla solar moment of the late 70's and 80's. Small panels, as that was all they had at the time, proper connections and a trickle of electricity being back fed.
