I found "kms-quad", an example program that, apart from crashing on *every* device I have access to, features the ioctl's to correctly restore the TTY to its virgin state, and to disable the keyboard stream on STDIN on said terminal. That I wasn't reading it meant that commands I ran in the terminal would be executed by the parent shell when my terminal closed, as it went ahead and processed the stdin version of the keyboard input I was reading directly. Anyhow, now TTY seems to work flawlessly. I plan to have it not disable TTY keyboard input, in the event that the logged in user isn't a member of the `INPUT` group. I also need to do TTY switching, as disabling TTY Keyboard input means the `ctrl`+`alt`+`f1` TTY switching is disabled.

  • I consider a terminal application to be at the very top of the list of things that should "just fucking work", so that it works on KMS, Wayland, X11, and in various states of broken-ness on each of those is the bare minimum. It's fail safes need fail safes.
