"Godliness with contentment is great gain." ~ 1 Timothy 6:6
I am currently unemployed. Voluntarily; I'm taking a career break. We've been trying to cut down our expenses. Partially, it's for practical reasons since we're not bringing in any income. But I'm also interested in seeing how much we can do without. I dislike consumer culture and think it's one of the great banes of our age. So I'm trying to fix and re-purpose things that we already have as much as possible instead of buying new. Or, if we don't really need that thing, then going without it for a while until I can find it at a garage sale or learning to be happy without it. I think this is what Paul means when he says that contentment is great gain. If you can learn to be content, you've actually gained quite a bit. I'm trying to learn that!
