@mmiasma@mastodon.sdf.org Are there counterexamples? i.e., are there states with Republican governors and majorities but that are acceptable or even good to live in (by whatever those standards are)? (I would assume not, obviously.)

@mmiasma@mastodon.sdf.org Reading the article really sheds a lot more light on the issues that make them "worst." They all seem pretty bad.

@mmiasma@mastodon.sdf.org Texas is a FYRE Festival. The job market is relatively better here, but there's a sinister reason for that. There's no income tax, but the property and sales taxes are high, and the state government spends a lot of it on culture war bullshit. Education is mediocre at best, because of lack of funding, culture war bullshit, and training for standardized tests. Public transportation serves only small parts of the largest cities.

@mmiasma@mastodon.sdf.org @EthicalProfessor@mstdn.social@newsie.social I've seen several studies like this, to include the best cities to live in, and when you consider most of the factors that are looked at, many boil down to the viability of the economy. It's really more common sense like having the funds to improve and maintain roads and parks and bicycle paths and golf courses and keep their politicians pockets lined. For the record, doesn't everyone have a yardarm? Where else could one fly his personal skull and crossbones?
