@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org @lu@sunny.garden Ziglang appears to be both sufficiently funded and independent (at least for the moment, according to Andrew Kelly anyway). The key there seems to be keeping funding distributed across many sources so no single vendor can assert control over the project. I don't think this corporate sponsorship model really works generally though. We need fresh ideas to keep cool and / or critical projects alive. And devs should obviously be adequately compensated for their labor.

@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org A big part of this will be asking over and over "do we really need this?" and also "how can we make this easily maintainable?". People will stop using wasteful big-tech-isms that don't make a ton of sense outside the corporate world. They will probably do away with unnecessary abstractions. IMHO, a lot of high-level languages at least partially fall into that category too, if we're being honest. I agree with what @gryphonmyers@mastodon.social said, regarding diversifying funding.
