@chadmccullough@mastodon.bsd.cafe @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org Hi Chad, As a long term Linux user (1990's) I am growing disenchanted with the steadily creeping IBM/Redhat monoculture being forced upon users, so I am interested in hearing folk's experiences with alternatives. As I see it FreeBSD is the best choice for Desktops with FreeBSD & OpenBSD both good for Servers and NetBSD occupying a more niche position. Was the recent announcement by NetBSD disavowing LLM generated code your reason for trying?

@chadmccullough@mastodon.bsd.cafe @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org What's the story with Wayland? How tough is it to get things like niri/openshell/dms going on it? Is there a Linux app compat layer like FreeBSD so I can run apps that do not exist on BSD yet?

@chadmccullough@mastodon.bsd.cafe @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org I should really try at some point but I'm already so overwhelmed. My laptop is busted and my server has been acting up and I've barely researched into how much of my Linux setup I could really do on netbsd.

@chadmccullough@mastodon.bsd.cafe @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org I'm having fun with my NetBSD VPS. I should also revisit my #SDF account. And I do need a desktop to work with.

@chadmccullough@mastodon.bsd.cafe How does your NetBSD desktop look like, if I may ask?
