I finished the hat-scarf for donation and found a semi-willing model. I'm knitting him one also but with wool that I'll have to hand wash. This one is in acrylic (aka plastic, a petroleum product) so it'll be machine-washable. I could've found a machine-washable wool but I had this on hand.
