For the refrigeration-nerds: Is there a good fist-formula on how much refrigerant one should fill in a new-built system? (Compressor cooling) - or is there a way to judge it on the fly? (As in "if it gets cold, it may be enough" or so)

  • @Kamikazepinguin@chaosfurs.social I would say follow the manufacturer’s instructions but I’m not Refridgermeration tech

@Kamikazepinguin@chaosfurs.social Refrigerant manufacturers provide tables that are based on the inherent properties of the coolant and the length and diameter of the lines carrying the coolant. Just getting cold isn't a great indicator because you can actually achieve colder temperatures on the evaporator side with a too-low coolant charge, which will cause it to freeze up. This is the extent of my knowledge after dealing with a few leaky ACs in my lifetime, and does not represent expertise.

@Kamikazepinguin@chaosfurs.social there are pretty serious fines for messing about with refrigerant if you aren’t qualified, except in the USA.
